The Himalayas are the youngest mountain range in the world (and still growing!), but reading about Uttarakhand you realize how relative time is — archaeological excavations in this young region revealed implements dating back to the Stone Age (8000BC).
It is a land of unmatchable natural beauty and timeless serenity truly the abode of the gods. A young state, it has a lot of catching up to do and with fragmented agriculture holdings, a history of low employment openings and resultant migration as well as growing pressure on its precious forest cover. The state was badly affected by a calamities earthquake in the Uttarkashi region in 1991 and in June 2013. There was enormous loss of lives, buildings, homes and livestock caused by severe flooding across the State. We alongwith Lok Chetna Manch (Ranikhet) decided to extend a rehabilitation mission for some of the effected families.
