Koraput district is located in the southern part of the state and is on a plateau with backdrops of terraced green valleys, forests, and waterfalls and the district experiences mainly three seasons summer, winter and rainy. Summer occurs from April to June, rainy season from June to October and Winter from November to march. This region enjoys the best climate in odisha and attracted tourists in large numbers. The economy is primarily based on agriculture and forest produce. The distirct with semi evergreen to deciduoud vegetation endowed with various wild plants as a natural resource. The soil and climatic condition is suitable for production of coffee, cashew, cotton, tobacco, vegetable and fruits.The common food crops grown in the district are paddy, millet, maize and pulses. They are 62 Tribes inhabitating in koraput. The Largest tribes are Khond, Paroja and Bhottada.Languages spoken is Tribal dialect and Oriya. There is some industrial presence near koraput town with a large NALCO plant and mines, as also a HAL facility.
